Fear of Flying

Margulies of 'Special Interest'

Blame it on Tony... Actress Julianna Margulies has found herself on a "list of people of special interest" at airports. As a result, she gets the super search whenever she travels.

"Every time I go through security, I have to go through the lonely check point where they search you and go through all your bags." Despite her recent mob ties, her suspect status has more to do with the uncertainties of film shoots. "I've had a lot of one way tickets to Los Angeles and New Mexico to shoot (new film) 'The Lost Room,'" she explains.

Purchasing one-way tickets, as did the 9/11 terrorists, is one way to land you on the list. "It's always so funny when they're going through everything and they're treating you like a criminal and then they put everything back in your bag and ask you for your autograph." New Orleans Confronts its Pain

Thousands show up for Katrina doc

On Wednesday, acclaimed director Spike Lee presented the world premiere of his documentary epic 'When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts' to the recovering city of New Orleans.

Though the pain from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina is still fresh, thousands attended the screening at the New Orleans Arena. Esplanade Ridge resident Rob Florence told The Times Picayune, "I know it's going to be hard to watch, but I'm angry, and I know Spike Lee is angry, and I know it's important to watch. I think we all should see this."

Said Lee: "One of the things I hope this documentary does is remind Americans that New Orleans is not over with, it's not done." (photo: Skip Bolen/WireImage.com)

Support and Tributes Pour In For Special Actor

Bruno Kirby's wife says thank you

"We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support we have received from Bruno's fans and colleagues who have admired and respected his work over the past 30 years," Lynn Sellers told the Associated Press. Of her husband she added, "Bruno's spirit will continue to live on not only in his rich body of film and television work but also through the lives of individuals he has touched throughout his life."

"One of the most generous persons I have ever met in my life." Director Rob Reiner, Los Angeles Times

"He was a great talent and a sweet guy." Columnist Joel Achenbach, Washington Post

"We'll miss you, sir. Everything you were in, you made it better. How many can say that?" Writer Scott Brown, EW.com

The family suggests donations be made in Kirby's name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 6033 W. Century Blvd., Suite 300, Los Angeles, CA, 90045.

Johnny Drama, "Icon of Irritability"

"Caffeine-addled loser hero...new American winner"?

He may want his spa treatments and calf implants, but Drama is "the newest masculine ideal in a brutal age." According to the New York Observer, the perpetually pissed struggling actor "may be the most resonant new icon of the American character on TV, indeed in all of pop culture in the past couple of years." Wow. He's even giving twitchy anger a good name. "I mean, couldn't you consider some forms of irritability a kind of highly evolved sensitivity to things?" cultural critic Ron Rosenbaum wonders. "People who aren't irritable -- emotional flat-liners, you might call them, yoga-mat people -- may just lack a certain impassioned engagement with life."

Nuns and Angels in America

Winslet and Wilson steam up new film

She played a raunchy nun, he played a repressed Mormon Republican...it was inevitable they'd end up in bed together. Kate Winslet (Emmy-nominated for her guest turn in 'Extras') and Patrick Wilson ('Angels in America') team up to steam up 'Little Children,' a recently-completed feature by director Todd Field ('Carnivale'). According to Liz Smith's column, the pair is "beyond sexy" in the film, and Winslet appears "like she never has before." Few got to witness the combustion, however, as the set had to be cleared during Winslet and Wilson's big sex scene, so it was just the actors and the director... The drama is currently being shopped to the festivals. (photo: Mark Sullivan/WireImage.com)

Deadwood's Sign of the Times

When Al Swearengen says, "We're in the presence of the new," he's not just talking about the latest stagecoach, Ted Anthony writes for the Associated Press. As the series winds down, Anthony sees the show as "beyond anything else, about one of the early 21st century's most urgent issues - the rise of a confusing, overwhelming media society where little is as it appears." He points to Al's suspicion of the new telegraph contraptions, "messages from invisible sources," as a threat to his power and local control, much as the rise of new media threatens today's established powers. Citing Sean O'Sullivan's new book, Reading Deadwood, he concludes: "Those who know how to negotiate the old, the new and the between, are the ones who survive."

Connolly Goes Behind Camera

Pretend pitching projects to studios has been good practice for Kevin Connolly. The actor recently switched sides and took a turn behind the camera, directing an indy dark comedy called 'Gardener of Eden' starring Lukas Haas, Giovanni Ribisi and Turtle himself, Jerry Ferrara. "My life was never more like 'Entourage' than when I was trying to get this done," he tells the New York Post. "You're in there with money people that you don't belong in the room with."

As for his high-profile relationship with Nicky Hilton...Connolly recently bought a new home, but just for one. "We don't live together. We're not getting married. I think part of the thing that makes our relationship successful is we don't put any pressure on each other." (photo: John Sciulli/WireImage.com)

Three's Company

Malin in the middle

She played the unabashed ingénue who whipped off her clothes before 'The Comeback' cameras, so Malin Akerman knew what she was getting into when she auditioned for the part of Tori, the hot friend who gets in the middle of Sloane and Eric on 'Entourage.' Just like in the bedroom, there wasn't a lot of talk about the three-way in the audition, says Akerman.

"We really didn't discuss it that much. In the audition, Kevin Connolly and Emmanuelle Chriqui were there just so they could sense the chemistry. And of course they asked, are you comfortable with some nudity? I'd read the script already so that was a non-issue. They said we'd do it really classy, and I said I'll hold you to it." McShane Knows [Expletive Deleted]

Deadwood star has a theory

"I think people always love guys who do something they would like to do in real life but can't. Or behave as outrageously as he does. The one thing I love about Al is that he says whatever's on his mind, which I appreciate." Ian McShane explained to The Winnipeg Sun when asked why Deadwood's colorful innkeeper Al Swearengen has become such a fan favorite.

"Some people come up to me and they feel it gives them license to be profane -- 'Oh, how are you *&?#@?!' I always say, 'You just wanted to say that, didn't you?' "

Because of his Swearengen portrayal, the veteran actor has become quite the hot commodity in Hollywood. This year, he's won praise for his work in Woody Allen's 'Scoop', will go against Matthew McConaughey in the soon-to-be released 'We are Marshall,' — and is headed into production for Adam Samberg's comedy vehicle 'Hot Rod,' and the thriller 'Case 39' with Renee Zellweger. The family that plays together...

Deadwood's Cox pair in re-wedded bliss

Currently on stage with Tom Stoppard's new play 'Rock'n'Roll' in London, Deadwood's Brian Cox and Nicole Ansari-Cox tell the Sunday Herald life and work are going along quite nicely. "You couldn't ask for a better situation. It's very relaxing, not at all tense-making," says Cox. In fact, they often find themselves talking shop deep into the early morning. "We give each other a lot of freedom," says Ansari-Cox, "because we know what it takes in order to create." The thespians became a couple in '98, eloping to Vegas in '01 and, just this last month, renewed their vows in a public ceremony at Birkhill Castle in Fife. (photo: Dan Wooller/WireImage.com)

No Surprise – Boothe Gets the Boot

Star honored at Fund's Annual Awards

Over the weekend, Deadwood star Powers Boothe received a 'Golden Boot' from the Motion Picture & Television Fund. The annual event honors those who have furthered the tradition of the Western in film and television. The native Texan made his film debut as a Bolivian bandito in 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.' Among his many memorable films, he appeared in the oaters 'Southern Comfort' and 'Tombstone.'

This year the fund also celebrated the directorial career of Clint Eastwood, who was awarded the prestigious Founders Award -- joining Hollywood legend John Ford as the second director to be so honored. (photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ WireImage.com)

Wahlberg Casts Real-Life Aquaman

In the wake of rumors that 'Aquaman' could be coming to a big screen theater near us someday, 'Entourage' exec producer Mark Wahlberg said it was unlikely he'd be donning the superhero's signature green and orange swimsuit. "No, I don't think so," he told IESB site while promoting his new film, 'Invincible." He would be more interested in producing such a project, and his first choice to star as the sea world super creature? Adrian Grenier. (photo: Jim Spellman/WireImage.com)

The Vincent Chase of Sports

Sports Illustrated re-casts 'Entourage'

S.I. does some creative match-making this month, re-casting 'Entourage' with a few figures from the sports arena. As Vince's counterpart, they see Yankee heartthrob Derek Jeter: "as smooth as they come on and off the field, though some critics say he's overrated -- especially if they root for the team that plays near Queens Boulevard." As for Sloan, the magazine suggests she might be regretting that threesome, much like golfer Paula Creamer, who "likely regrets being lumped in with women's golf's young threesome of Michelle Wie and Morgan Pressel."

Perhaps the most inspired bit of casting goes to Michael Jordan as boss-man Terrence: "As a Wizards exec, Jordan made Kwame Brown a No. 1 pick. Rather than nurture him, however, Jordan returned to the court and so belittled Brown that his confidence was shot." (photo: Gary Gershoff/WireImage.com)

From Deadwood to Hollywood

Molly Parker to star in Reeves pic

She plays the estranged wife of a private detective (Adrian Brody), and Molly Parker gets a special salute from Liz Smith for her role. Look for her among the all-star cast of 'Hollywoodland' next month, the story about the mysterious death of George Reeves, TV's first Superman. Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, and Bob Hoskins also star in the film, which is "as involving, as sexy, as hard-bitten - and far more poignant - than the great black-and-white noirs of the '40s and '50s," according to Smith. The film's director, Allen Coulter, received Emmy and DGA nominations for his work on 'The Sopranos' and 'Sex and the City.' (photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage.com)

Carrie Spiking Heel Hike?

Shoes multiplying across the pond

In a just-released survey, British women reveal they have a growing obsession with shoes, and 'Sex and the City' may be behind it. Half of the 1,000 women questioned by the U.K. edition of Harper's Bazaar magazine admitted owning more than 30 pairs of shoes, while one in eight copped to owning at least 100 pairs (!). Editor Lucy Yeomans credits Carrie Bradshaw with playing "a huge part in British women's obsession with footwear," citing her infamous shoe-mugging incident, in which she begged a thief to take her expensive jewelry and leave her Manolo Blahnik heels behind. "Many women viewed her as a style icon," says Yeomans, "and thanks to Carrie most now know what Manolo Blahniks are." (photo: George Pimentel/WireImage.com)
