Bored to Death

Cheryl Hines has recently directed her first feature, 'Serious Moonlight,' in which the main character (Meg Ryan) holds her husband (Timothy Hutton) hostage. In a recent interview, Hines was asked what forms of torture she would devise if she were to kidnap her 'Curb' husband, Larry David. "I would make him listen to all my bad jokes, and all my stories about my family, and uninteresting dreams I've had," she said. "Things like that, he has very little patience for in real life. So I would make him listen to all the things that he would hate listening to, just as a form of entertainment for myself." (photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage.com)

After the Storm

Can David Simon shine a spotlight on the problems in New Orleans with his new HBO series 'Treme' the way he did for Baltimore in 'The Wire'? The show looks at the rebuilding of post-Katrina NOLA from the vantage point of the musicians and those in and around the city's historically musical neighborhood (pronounced "truh-MAY"). Simon's cast mixes actors with non-actors, including Phyllis Montana-LeBlanc who was featured in Spike Lee's documentary 'When the Levees Broke' and will play the girlfriend of one of the musicians. The set recreates the city just three months after the devastation and apparently is realistic. "As I turned the corner, I said, 'Why are the waterlines still on the homes?' I got a headache, stomach pains and my chest was hurting. That's how real it was...I relived it all over again," Montana-LeBlanc says. "David's going to shine his light on us and put that fire under the city that we need. New Orleans needs this show." (photo: Skip Bolen/WireImage.com)

It's Bottoms Up for Buscemi

Steve Buscemi is headed back to Jersey, but this time he'll be playing a gangster circa 1920, rather than Tony Soprano's ill-fated cousin. Buscemi is currently filming the role of Enoch "Nucky" Johnson in HBO's new series 'Boardwalk Empire,' about Atlantic City during Prohibition. Nucky is based on a real person, but has been fictionalized by creator Terence Winter who describes him as AC's "beloved treasurer. He was the guy who really ran everything....He went from being a corrupt politician who basically engaged in low-level election rigging, to the big leagues of alcohol," says Winter. "The world changed completely." (photo: Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images)

No Rest for the Weary

After Manny Pacquiao's decisive win over Miguel Cotto, the Filipino fighter told HBO commentator Larry Merchant that he was already looking forward to taking a vacation. Paquiao trainer Freddy Roach, however, has a much different itinerary in mind. "Personally, I want Mayweather," Roach says. "We break him down and beat him up. The thing is, he's a fragile guy. We have the speed and the power to deal with him. Mayweather has speed. The thing is, he'll lay on the ropes, he rolls his shoulders, stuff like this, and we'll take everything he gives us. ... I know how to beat that guy. I think we definitely have better footwork than him, I think we have faster feet, and the hands are about the same." (photo: Will Hart)

Labor Pains

Not only has Carla Gugino found a home at HBO, playing Amanda on 'Entourage,' but the network has provided other valuable opportunities for the actress as well. For example, when she needed to do research for her role as a pregnant porn star in 'Women in Trouble,' Gugino knew exactly where to turn: "I watched some documentaries of porn stars on HBO, because I was intrigued by more than just the mechanics of the job. I wanted to know why they do it, what success means to them, and all of the things I wanted to understand from the inside out. But this isn't an expose of that industry, it was just the backdrop to the character. The tone of the movie is light, but it does get to a place where you're emotionally moved. Being pregnant is a really big thing for any woman, but the fact that you're a porn star adds complications." (photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images)
