Hair Brained

'Eastbound and Down' executive producer/writer/director Jody Hill recently explained one of the secret's to Danny McBride's Method when it comes to inhabiting Kenny Powers. Like Samson, his power comes from the hair, in particular, the mullet. "To us, Kenny has the 'I just woke up,' and he has the 'I'm in school,' where his mullet is a little more in control, and then he has the 'I'm going out,'where it's slicked back," says Hill. And don't think McBride's party in the back is impromptu: "He'll come out on the set with the right amount of hair gel and shit like that. It's so weird, because that's become Danny's little pet project: the hair." (photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage.com)

Words to Live By

Liz Garbus's HBO documentary 'Shouting Fire: Stories from the Edge of Free Speech' looks at the evolution and history of free speech in America. The filmmaker knows one of the film's experts and guides intimately: Her father Martin Garbus is a noted First Amendment lawyer. In an interview on HBO.com she explains the challenge of this basic right: "Free speech is free speech. And free speech means protecting even the ideas you hate." But the benefits outweigh the difficulties: "We see today the streets of Iran are overwhelmed with people exercising their right to protest. Free speech, free expression, free assembly — those are the guarantees that we have a free society. And we need to celebrate them and understand them." (photo: Jason Kempin/WireImage.com)

Who's Watching?

Sam Trammell has been acting long enough to get spotted in that "Aren't you on TV?" kind of way. But the fame that's coming with playing Sam Merlotte on 'True Blood' is a different level of recognition. Trammell notes: "Sometimes I'll be somewhere and somebody will come up and say something and I'll realize they were looking at me for the past 10 minutes I was in that room, and I'll go, 'God, I hope I didn't do anything embarrassing.' You start worrying about what kind of habits you have when you know that people are looking at you." But he'd rather watch his p's and q's than complain. "It's all exciting. At this point, I'm not even going to pretend that it's a hassle. It's awesome. It's great to be in something that people like." (photo: Mark Sullivan/WireImage.com)

Hollywood Haze

Chances are you don't know who Charlie Saxton is. But that's about to change. In addition to his role as the son of a struggling gigolo on HBO's new 'Hung,' Saxton will be appearing on the big screen this year in Peter Jackson's 'Lovely Bones' and Joel Schumacher's '12.' Which means he's being subjected to the right of passage of every Hollywood "fresh face": The Likes and Dislikes Interview. The LA Times has learned that Saxton has a hankering for: Twitter, Mac, 'Up,' Emma Watson, 'Transformers,' and Team Jolie, among other things. (photo: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic.com)

Rabid Fans

'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer (much like his petulant progeny on the show) has undergone some adjustments since becoming a vampire. His now-famous face is perfectly at home in Los Angeles, however, where people are pretty used to that sort of thing. "They're very comfortable just coming up and saying, 'Hey, man. I love your work.' And then they leave you alone," Moyer says. "It's really quite refreshing. You get the odd one who comes up and says 'Bite me,' and I've literally met three people who've named their dog Sookie ... But on the whole, it's pretty much the same."
