British screenwriter Gwyneth Hughes received BAFTA TV Award nominations for HBOs miniseries Five Days and for the documentary miniseries Manhunt: The Search for the Yorkshire Ripper, which she also directed. A graduate in Russian Studies, Hughes began work as a newspaper reporter before moving into a distinguished career as a director of TV documentaries, and then into drama. Her recent writing credits include HBOs miniseries Five Days and the biopic Miss Austen Regrets, which earned her a British Writers Guild award. Most recently, Hughes tackled The Mystery of Edwin Drood, the adaptation of Charles Dickens unfinished final novel, giving the story her own ending.
