When Grandin was diagnosed with autism as a child, there was little known of the condition and one of the recommended treatments was institutionalization. With the support of her mother, aunt and a few key teachers and friends along the way, Temple not only finished high school, she went on to college and graduate school for her Master of Science in Animal Science. Undaunted by educational, social and professional roadblocks, Grandin turned her unique talent into a behavioral tool that revolutionized the cattle industry and laid the groundwork for her successful career as an author, lecturer and pioneering advocate for autism and autism spectrum disorder education.
