Michael K. Deaver

Michael K. Deaver

With more than 30 years experience in presidential politics and communications, Michael K. Deaver is widely recognized as one of the nation's premier image-makers.

Michael K. Deaver currently serves as vice chairman international, for the public relations firm Edelman and executive vice president and director of corporate affairs for that agency's Washington, D.C., office. At Edelman, Deaver provides strategic counsel to some of the agency's most prestigious accounts, helping clients deal with the elite media and other Beltway audiences.

He remains active in national and international politics, informally advising politicians on all levels. He continues to meet with heads of state, members of legislatures and parliaments in Europe, Asia and Latin America, providing insight on how officials can deal with an ever-growing Americanized media in their home country.

Mike Deaver spent more than 20 years as one of Ronald Reagan's closest advisors in both Sacramento and Washington. In the White House, he served as assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff from January 1981 until May 1985. Deaver, chief of staff James A. Baker III and counselor to the president, Edwin Meese, were viewed as the triumvirate directing the Reagan administration's successful first term. Mike is widely credited with being the architect of the Reagan communications program, including the landslide presidential campaigns of 1980 and 1984.

He continues to comment on politics, the media and public affairs, appearing regularly on the public affairs programs as well as on the op-ed pages of national newspapers.

Deaver, a New York Times best-selling author, recently completed his second book, "A Different Drummer: Thirty Years with Ronald Reagan" (HarperCollins, 2001).
