In episode 7, Tommy Flannegan lobbys Sen. Tom Daschle on the MTBE issue. A gas additive, MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether) is purported to leak into and contaminate ground water. A controversial proposal in a current energy bill would protect MTBE manufacturers from liability lawsuits. Meanwhile, ethanol manufacturers claim that their product is a safe alternative to MTBE.
