Originally from Kansas, he attended Northwestern University before moving to Los Angeles, to pursue an acting career. In addition to appearing in numerous television shows and feature films (among them "Something's Gotta Give" with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton), Mr. Spears enjoys a second career as a writer, with his collaborator, Tom Smith. Together with Broadway composer Andrew Lippa ("The Wild Party"), they have written a new musical comedy, "Asphalt Beach" which had it's world premiere in Chicago this fall and will be moving to New York later this year. Mr. Spears and Mr. Smith have also written movies and television pilots, as well as the Sundance Film Festival hit, "Ernest and Bertram," (now showing at www.youtube.com) which marked Mr. Spears directorial debut. Mr Spears has just completed directing his first feature film, "Careless," which stars Tony Shalhoub and Colin Hanks.
