Julia Brownell grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey, which she fondly refers to as "the suburbs of New York". Julia attended Amherst College, where she began writing plays and doing improv comedy. She got her MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University.
Julia's play, 'Smart Cookie', won the Kendeda Graduate Playwriting Award and was produced by the Alliance Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. She has been a finalist for the Heideman Award and the Wasserstein Award, and her short play, 'Good Girl', was produced by the Actor's Theater of Louisville.
Julia's screenplay, 'Fucking Engaged', was optioned by FilmNation Entertainment with Jessica Biel attached to produce and star. Her parents are proud, but really really hope the title changes.
