Gena Rowlands is recognized internationally as an actress of rare accomplishment and talent. Film credits include THE HIGH COST OF LOVING, LONELY ARE THE BRAVE and a number of films directed by or co-starring her late husband, John Cassavetes. A CHILD IS WAITING, FACES, MINNIE AND MOSKOWITZ, A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE (Golden Globe Award as Best Actress, the National Board of Review Award, Spain's San Sebastian Film Festival Award), GLORIA (nominated for an Academy® Award as Best Actress, received Best Actress Award from the Italian Commentators, co-winner of Golden Lion Award from the Venice Film Festival), OPENING NIGHT (Silver Bear Award as Best Actress, Berlin Film Festival) THE TEMPEST, LOVE STREAMS (Nastro d'Argento "Gold Award" for Best Actress at the Taormina Film Festival in Italy), as well as LIGHT OF DAY with Michael J. Fox, Woody Allen's ANOTHER WOMAN, ONCE AROUND with Richard Dreyfuss and Jim Jarmusch's comedy NIGHT ON EARTH.
Gena's notable television credits have included THURSDAY'S CHILD, A QUESTION OF LOVE, STRANGERS- THE STORY OF A MOTHER AND DAUGHTER with Bette Davis, AN EARLY FROST (Golden Globe and Emmy® nominations as Best Actress), THE BETTY FORD STORY (another Golden Globe nomination, received Emmy® Award as Best Actress in a mini-series, TNT's MONTANA (Ace Awards nomination), and THE FACE OF A STRANGER with Tyne Daly (Emmy® Award as Best Actress). Her most recent television appearance was in TNT's CRAZY IN LOVE, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.
Theater work in Los Angeles has included LOVE STREAMS with Jon Bought, THE THIRD DAY COMES with Michael McGuire, WOMAN OF MYSTERY with Carol Kane, and on Broadway THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. Gena returned to the stage in 1991 and 1992 in three separate sold-out engagements with Ben Gazzara in A.R. Gurney's LOVE LETTERS at the Canon Theatre in Beverly Hills, She appeared in sold-out performances in SUBSTANCE OF FIRE with Ron Rifkin in 1993 at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Currently to be released PARALLEL LIVES, the story of a dramatic college reunion. Miss Rowlands was honored at the Sundance Film Festival in February of 1994 for her contribution to Independent Films. Recently she co-starred in SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT, UNHOOK THE STARS, NEON BIBLE and LIFE ESTATES, a Hallmark Hall Of Fame Presentation for CBS.
