Vanessa Redgrave has starred in many plays and films since she first appeared in London in 1959 in a play with her father, Sir Michael Redgrave. She has subsequently played Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ibsen, and in many works by American playwrights including Arthur Miller, Martin Sherman, and Tennessee Williams.

Redgrave won the Academy Award for her performance in JULIA. She received Oscar nominations for her performance in MORGAN!, ISADORA, the Merchant Ivory production THE BOSTONIANS, MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS and HOWARD'S END. Among her other notable feature film credits are A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, THE SEVEN PERCENT SOLUTION, AGATHA, PRICK UP YOUR EARS, WHEN SHE DANCED, and THE BALLAD OF THE SAD CAFÉ.

In January this year she played Eleonora Fonseca Pimenthel in an oratario at the great opera house of Naples, commemorating the bicentary of the revolution in Naples against the Bourban monarchy. The oratario was dedicated to the abolition of the death penalty. ELEANORA, directed by Robert de Simone, was performed at the Teatro San Carlo, and televised by RAI Channel 1 on the 8th of January.

She is co-founder of Moving Theater, a company whose artistic directors include her brother Corin Redgrave, her sister-in-law, Kika Markham, Ekkehard Schall, Lenka Udovicki and Rade Sherbedgia. The Moving Theatre associate produced this year's NOT ABOUT NIGHTINGALES, with the Royal National Theatre and Alley Theatre, Houston, Texas. The play, by Tennessee Williams, was discovered by Vanessa and first performed at the Royal National Theatre in London, then in Houston prior to the Broadway run this year at Circle in the Square.

Vanessa organized a three-day festival of Music and Theatre in Pristina, Kosovo in September this year, for UNHR and UNICEF. Philip Glass, Foday Musa Luko, and Bodan Arsouski inaugurated the Festival in Skopje with a concert in benefit of UNICEF's emergency appeal for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey. The Martha Graham Dance Company, the Dodona Theatre production of Vaclov Havel's THE AUDIENCE, Patricia Kaas from France, Franco Nero from Italy with Lino Patrono's Jazz Show, Andrea Minghardi's BIG COUNTRY, Luke and Lebo M (THE LION KING) joined a number of Albanian Kosovar actors and singers for the festival.

Vanessa co-produced with Bill Kenwright and starred on stage at the Gielgud Theatre in London in A SONG AT TWILIGHT, Noel Coward's last play. The production co-stars Corin Redgrave and Kika Markham, directed by Sheridan Morley.

Vanessa was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by the San Sebastian Film Festival this year for her work in films which include her role as a school teacher in Carlo Gabriel Nero's film, UNINVITED. Carlo Gabriel is her son; he wrote and directed the film.

After a brilliant turn in HBO's IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK 2, which earned her an Emmy, she returned to the screen in Sean Penn's THE PLEDGE, starring Jack Nicholson.
