What happens when your best friends turn out to be strangers? Dennis Quaid, Andie MacDowell, Greg Kinnear and Toni Collette star in Dinner with Friends, the story of two couples whose 12-year bond of marriage, kids, vacations and food is tested when one couple reveals they're splitting up.
Two couples. Four friends. Their lives closely intertwined by familiar bonds of love, marriage, parenthood and companionship. The husbands were best friends since college. The wives met each other at work. Gabe and Karen introduced Tom and Beth to each other. It's been a happy foursome for 12 years, sharing extravagant gourmet dinners, vacations on Martha's Vineyard and child-rearing. They all expected "to grow old and fat together, the four of us."
Then, one night at dinner, somewhere between the pumpkin risotto and the lemon almond polenta cake, Beth dissolves into heaving sobs, blurting out the news that Tom is leaving her for another woman. This unexpected revelation catapults both couples into a reevaluation of their lives, their friendships, their marriages and their dreams for the future.
This searingly candid, often-funny drama explores the bittersweet side of friendship through the eyes of two best-friend married couples. The unexpected revelation forces Gabe and Karen to re-evaluate their seemingly perfect relationship, as well as their friendship with two people who seem to be repudiating the life they all once worked so hard to preserve. The drama is set in present-day Connecticut and New York City, with flashbacks to Martha's Vineyard twelve-and-a-half years earlier.
