Tom Thayer (executive producer) was the final president of Universal Television
for six years, through the Seagram acquisition in 1997. Prior to that, he was the founding
president of MCA Television Entertainment, MCA/Universal's premiere venture into cable
programming, which resulted in the HBO series "Dream On" and some 40 films for cable
TV.
Through his own production company, Traveler's Rest Films, Thayer has produced
"The Great Gatsby," with Mira Sorvino, and "Firestarter," with Dennis Hopper, Malcolm
McDowell and Marguerite Moreau, as well as the John McCain biography "Faith of My
Fathers." He also produced the TV series "Kojak" and "Ghosthunters," and is currently
developing with Focus Films a biography of Alfred Hitchcock for theatrical release, based
on the book "Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho," as well as developing a four-
hour adaptation of Michael Crichton's best seller "The Andromeda Strain" with co-
producer Ridley Scott and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Robert Schenkkan.
