Hannah's debut feature, "Arresting Gena," premiered in 1997 at
the Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals. The film was distributed in the U.S. through the
Fuel Film Tour. Her documentary "La Boda" (2000) screened at the Human Rights
Watch Film Festival, the New York Film Festival, and Los Angeles Latino Film Festival.
It aired nationally on PBS on "POV" in 2000 and 2001. Her subsequent film, "La
Escuela" (2002) also showed on "POV." It received Special Jury Prizes from the San
Antonio Film Festival and the South by Southwest Film Festival and was awarded the
MTV News/Doc Award at the DoubleTake Documentary Film Festival.
Weyer received her Master's degree in Film from New York University in 1994. Her
thesis short, "The Salesman and Other Adventures," won awards at numerous
international festivals, including Sundance. It was also broadcast in France, Spain,
Italy, and on PBS. Weyer was a recipient of both the 1994 Princess Grace Award and
the 1995 IFP/East-Independent Film Channel Award. Before studying film, she worked
as a volunteer for the non-profit Amigos de las Americas, dispensing vaccinations to
children and mothers throughout rural Paraguay.
