Rachel Griffiths is best known for her role as Brenda Chenowith on
HBO's hit series "Six Feet Under," for which she received a Golden Globe in 2002 (and
was nominated again the following year). She has also been nominated for two Emmys
and won two SAG Awards (as part of the "Six Feet Under" ensemble). Griffiths was
nominated for an Academy Award in 1999 for her performance in "Hilary & Jackie." A
native of Melbourne, Australia, she graduated from Victoria College with a Bachelor of
Education in drama and dance. Griffiths first attracted international recognition for her
role in "Muriel's Wedding," for which she took home both the Australian Film Critics
Award and the Australian Film Institute Award for best supporting actress. Her other
film credits include "Ned Kelly," "The Rookie," "Blow," "Blow Dry," "Me Myself I,"
"Divorcing Jack," "Among Giants," "My Son the Fanatic," "My Best Friend's Wedding,"
"To Have and to Hold," "Jude," "Children of the Revolution," and "Cosi." Griffiths has
also appeared in several Australian television shows, including the mini-series "After the
Deluge," "Kath and Kim," "Feds," and the comedy special "The Jimeoin Show." She
continues to perform in productions for the Melbourne Theater Company. Griffiths has
also written and directed two short films, "Tulip" (1998) and "Roundabout" (2002).
