Combining "best of" highlights from the original series with updated, never-before-seen footage, this one-hour special gives fans a glimpse at where the Evangelistas have been - and where they're heading.
Synopsis
This one-hour documentary updates viewers on the latest news from the Long Island
Evangelista clan, as reported by Chris ("The Nephew") Evangelista in a
running narration throughout the special. "Last year," says Chris, "me
and my family let cameras follow us around. They were always there,
day and night, when I'm waking up in the morning from a dead sleep,
or from a hangover from the night before... Everybody says, 'how do
you act like that?' It's not acting. We're being ourselves. I'm not a
movie star. I'm a fat guy from Long Island. That's who I am. And this
is the real world - this is how we live."
Family Bonds: The Final Episode begins with highlights from the 2004
series, including: Sal's blowout 18th birthday party and his first days on
the All City Bail Bonds job; Frankie's learning how to ride a bicycle (his
mom proved infinitely more successful as a coach than his dad); Dawn's
liposuction procedure at the plastic surgeon (not for the squeamish!),
Tom's multiple attempts to quit smoking (including acupuncture and
hypnotism), the sisters' love-life confessions in the Classy Lady nail
salon; and the heartwarming birth of Dana's baby boy, Konstantino. The
documentary then shifts to detailing what the Evangelistas have been
up to lately.
Among the new developments:
- No longer content to play the apprentice, Sal decides to take a test
to become a licensed bail bondsman, just like his father and cousin.
He barely passes, to his mother's joy and father's more measured
acceptance.
- To his delight, Frankie is the beneficiary of Sal's success. To
celebrate, Tom takes both his sons on a Long Island fishing outing
in a canoe; after catching his first bass, Frankie declares it "the best
day of my life."
- Motherhood notwithstanding, Dana changes her mind about
forgoing her education at NYU. Fighting back her emotions, she
leaves young Konstantino at home with her mother-in-law (and a
camera to capture any notable baby milestones) in order to pursue
her degree in downtown Manhattan (getting lost along the way).
- Chris' fledgling romance with Adrienne, whom he met through the
"Great Expectations" dating service, has become a serious
relationship that could actually get the Nephew out of the
Evangelista domicile for good - to Tom's infinite relief, and
Frankie's tearful dismay.
- * Tom and Flo renew their wedding vows after 24 years.
Apparently, Tom had promised his wife that if their marriage
survived 20 years, he would agree to renew his vows with her. The
final scenes of Family Bonds: The Final Episode feature an emotional
ceremony in which the bride and groom arrive at a waterfront site
on Tom's souped-up motorcycle (naturally), exchange heartfelt
vows in front of a biker-dominated audience (though Tom forgot to
bring the speech he'd labored over beforehand), and head off into
the sunset (figuratively) via one of Long Island's most scenic
highways.

- It's happy trails for the Evangelistas - HBO wishes them Happy
Holidays, and the very best in 2006 and always.
