Director, Executive Producer

Writer/Producer/Director, Steven Cantor is a graduate of the USC School of Cinema-Television and a founding partner in Stick Figure Productions. He received a 1994 Academy Award nomination for producing and directing the short documentary, Blood Ties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann, about the controversial photographer, and a 2003 Emmy Award nomination for producing Devil's Playground, about the rebellious tendencies of Amish youth. He also received an Emmy nomination for a 1995 NBA Stay-In-School commercial and an Emmy award for being part of the 2003 American Masters series with his film Willie Nelson: Still is Still Moving.

Cantor is now revisiting Sally Mann in a feature-length film he is producing and directing, Southern Exposure, for Cinemax and the BBC. He is also producing and directing an as-yet-untitled film about the reunion of the rock band, The Pixies, whose worldwide tour starts this spring.

In 2003, while producing and directing the pilot episode of the HBO series Family Bonds, Cantor also produced The Cult of Cindy for AMC, about a plastic surgery addict with a group of followers-turned-clones, as well as John Landis' Slasher for IFC, about an infamously sleazy used-car salesman.

In 2001, Cantor produced and directed Crossover, a special for IFC about musicians who make the transition to film acting. The show features such stars as Courtney Love, Bette Midler, Dwight Yoakam, Meat Loaf and Lance Bass from *N SYNC and premiered in September, 2001.

In 2001, Devil's Playground was awarded the Grand Prize in the Sony/AFI DVCAM Fest. It premiered at Sundance 2002, and has since been selected for screenings at numerous other international festivals. Also in 2001, Cantor and his sister, Carolyn, together produced and directed The Green Room, a special for Bravo about the making of the Arthur Miller show, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, starring Patrick Stewart. Last year, Cantor and Laikind produced Carolyn Cantor's profile of Roger Ebert, also made for Bravo.

In 1999, he produced and directed the feature length documentary, Bounce: Behind The Velvet Rope, which takes a humorous look at the world of nightclub bouncers. It won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 2000 Los Angeles Film Festival and was released by Artistic License Films in the fall of 2001, playing at such theatrical venues as New York's Angelika Film Center. It began its domestic TV exhibition on Showtime Network in Summer 2002 and continues to be shown on both that network and The Sundance Channel.

Cantor has also produced and directed commercials and music videos including the Look Better Naked campaign for David Barton Gym and Lisa Loeb's All Day video, which was released on Interscope Records' soundtrack for The Rugrats Movie, and reached number 7 on VH-1's top ten list. In addition, he has made education promotional films for Teach For America, LEARN and Camp Ronald McDonald For Good Times.

Prior to film school, Steven was a segment producer for MTV's top-rated show, House of Style, with Cindy Crawford. At USC, Steven wrote and produced the 12-minute sci-fi special effects short, Recon, starring Peter Gabriel (in his acting debut), Charles Durning, and Elizabeth Pena. He also wrote the feature-length version, which was purchased by Miramax in 1998.
