Director of Photography
Mr. Dokuchitz produces, directs, shoots and edits projects ranging from independent feature films, documentaries, commercials, and corporate promotional films.
Currently he is director of photography on two projects for HBO. Southern Exposure is a follow up to the 1994 Academy Award nominated documentary Bloodties: The Life and Work of Sally Mann, and the HBO Original Series Family Bonds, a reality program about a family of bail bondsmen from Long Island, NY, will begin airing Sunday nights Fall 2004.
Mr. Dokuchitz was director photography on John Landis' first documentary "SLASHER" for IFC and was the director of photography for the film Life on Jupiter which won a 2001 Emmy for Arts Programming. He was director of photography for the independent feature Endsville, starring Alan Ruck, which won the "Golden Apple" at the Manhattan Global Film Festival. He was also the cinematographer for the feature length documentary BOUNCE: Behind the Velvet Rope, a film about the life of bouncers. It received the "Grand Prize" at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, was released theatrically and is currently airing on Showtime. Also, he shot a ten part series for Channel Four of the U.K. about summer life in the Hamptons. This series aired on the Travel Channel and the WE Network here in the States as "Manhattan on the Beach" and "Single in the Hamptons". Mr. Dokuchitz was director of photography for Bravo Network's The Green Room, a behind the scenes look at producing a Broadway show starring Patrick Stewart, as well as a documentary for the Independent Film Channel, Crossover, which examines the current trend of musicians migrating to acting. Another of his programs was recently aired on the Lifetime Network; Healthy Start, a special on prenatal care that was produced and directed by Rory Kennedy.
He has won numerous awards at international film festivals for his documentary memories do not burn, narrated by Sarah Jessica Parker. This film chronicles the life of Bosnian refugee children. It was nominated for "Distinguished Documentary Achievement" by the International Documentary Association and was winner of the best nonfiction film for 1997 by The American Film Institute.
Mr. Dokuchitz has also shot for Bravo Profiles and was on tour with Willie Nelson shooting PBS's Emmy Award winning American Masters. He was director of photography for the Oxygen Network's original program The Isaac Mizrahi Show. He also spent a summer touring with Eminem as director of photography for a backstage documentary and for footage used in his music video "Sing for the Moment".
Mr. Dokuchitz was a 1997 Monitor Award finalist for best regional commercial director and was recently honored with four Telly Awards and three Vision Awards for his commercial directing efforts. Directorial credits include commercials for Foot Locker, Steve Madden Shoes, Ethan Allen Furniture, Innovation Luggage, PSA's for The Educational Fund to End Handgun Violence; MTV's Free Your Mind antiracism campaign, the Meadowlands Race Track, as well as "The New York Theatre Minute" for NY1 News.
Other experience includes, studio cameraman for the Phil Donahue Show, as well as, for the live cable network NewsTalk Television. Paul was on tour shooting for Mary J. Blige in South Africa and he was director of photography for the digital feature Fishing, which won "Best New Director" at the Rhode Island Intl. Film Festival and "Best Film" at the Great Lakes Film Festival.
Paul Dokuchitz is a 1987 graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts: Undergraduate Film & TV, where he produced and directed the award winning short film Dead Serious.
