Bio

Karen Murphy began her filmmaking career in documentaries, transitioning into feature films to produce This Is Spinal Tap. A cult classic, the film was considered "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" by the National Film Registry and selected for preservation in the Library of Congress.

Family Tree is Karen's first series for HBO and marks her seventh collaboration with Christopher Guest. She has also produced a variety of television pilots and features, including 'Drugstore Cowboy,' which won the Best Film award from the National Society of Film Critics; 'True Stories,' 'Twenty Bucks,' 'The Cutting Edge,' 'Waiting for Guffman,' 'Best in Show,' which was AFI's Movie of the Year; 'A Mighty Wind,' and 'For Your Consideration.'

Karen enjoys producing comedy content for MyDamnChannel.com. She is a founder of the Nashville Screenwriters Conference -- an annual event which encourages creative collaboration between professional screenwriters and songwriters.

A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Karen serves on its Foreign Language Film Award Committee.
