The Bowie backstory: "When we came up with the idea of doing a song, Ricky said he'd do the lyrics with Stephen. I said, that'd be great, and I'd do the melody, but then I'd give him some jokes for future episodes. The Ricky backstory: Ricky's first comedy pilot was about a manager facing a midlife crisis who goes on a show called 'Stars in Your Eyes' as David Bowie, a hero of Gervais's. The show ultimately led to 'The Office.'
