Two decades after the unforgettable Broadway debut that launched her meteoric career, Whoopi Goldberg returns to the Lyceum Theatre in New York City for her first solo HBO special in over 13 years: Whoopi: Back to Broadway reprises some of her most beloved characters, including the rant-prone dope fiend "Fontaine" — now taking aim at the Bush administration after a dizzying trip to Amsterdam — and the unnamed "handicapped woman" who first found romance on the Lyceum stage in 1985. Always offbeat, Goldberg also introduces "Lurleen" to the mix, an older Southern belle facing menopause with unlikely fascination for all things feminine. The one-hour special also reteams Whoopi with 'Angels in America' director Mike Nichols, who first brought the budding star to the Broadway stage.
