John Hawkes continues to build an impressive resume in both film and television. He was last seen on the big screen in Ridley Scott's 'American Gangster' opposite Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington and also appeared in Michael Mann's 'Miami Vice' with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. In addition he completed production on two independent features: 'The Pardon' and 'Small Town Saturday Night'.
Hawkes previously starred in the critically acclaimed movie, 'Me and You and Everyone We Know,' which had its world premiere at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. Additionally, it shared Camera d'Or honors and won the Critics Week sidebar at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and received two 2006 Independent Spirit Awards nominations.
Prior film credits include 'Wristcutters: A Love Story, The Amateurs,' 'A Slipping Down Life' and the psychological thriller 'Identity' with John Cusack. He won over audiences as Bugsy in 'The Perfect Storm,' and Hawkes starred in and co-produced the independent film 'Buttleman,' for which he received a Breakout Performance Award at the 2004 Sedona Film Festival. Other feature credits are 'Playing God,' 'From Dusk 'till Dawn' and 'Hardball.'
Hawkes was part of the ensemble cast of HBO's award-winning and gritty drama 'Deadwood,' and his other television credits include a leading role in Steven Spielberg's miniseries 'Taken,' a recurring role on the hit series 'The Practice' and guest-starring appearances on 'The X-Files' and '24.'
Born and raised in rural Minnesota, Hawkes moved to Austin, TX, where he began his career as an actor and musician. He co-founded the Big State Productions theater company and appeared in the group's original play 'In the West' at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. He also starred in the national touring company production of the play, 'Greater Tuna' and wrote and performed a critically acclaimed solo play, 'Nimrod Soul' at the Theatre at the Improv.
He currently writes, records and performs music with his band, King Straggler, which has performed at the Sundance Film Festival and SXSW Music Festival.
