Synopsis

Each year, thousands of high school students apply to the YoungArts Program, hoping for a chance to be mentored by the world’s leaders in the visual, literary and performing arts. In this all-new edition of the Emmy®-nominated YoungArts Masterclass, jazz icon Wynton Marsalis prepares three young men for a concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center, where they will perform alongside him. Selected by YoungArts – the national program that recognizes young, aspiring artists and nurtures arts in America – the mentees pay close attention as Marsalis offers invaluable critique on musicianship and insights into the realm of improvisation. Over lunch and while visiting a jazz club, Marsalis recounts his own career path and advises them on life in the professional jazz world. Later, they join Marsalis on stage for a performance they will never forget. The students in Wynton Marsalis: A YoungArts Masterclass make the most of this rare opportunity, underscoring the importance of mentorship in the arts and beyond.
