Spike Lee Requested Interviews With Bush, Cheney, Rove and Jindal

Posted 01:04 PM | Aug 26, 2010

In making 'If God Is Willing and da Creek Don't Rise,' Spike Lee sent out interview requests to some of the players in his story, including George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and Bobby Jindal. Only Bush got back to him. "I was told by the research department: 'No. Its not going to happen,' " remembers Lee. "It was something like, hes busy writing his memoirs. But we understood that. I wasnt betting on getting those interviews." Lee is happy however, he was able to get time with former FEMA director Michael Brown. "His interviews very important, because he says that [former Secretary of Homeland Security Michael] Chertoff didnt know what the hell he was doing. & Because even when we were doing 'Levees,' my instinct told me that Michael Brown was the scapegoat. Hes the guy that took all the bullets."
