'TOXIC LEGACY'

From The Record - a newspaper in northern New Jersey - this series of articles looks at how toxic paint sludge from the Ford Motor Company's Mawah plant was dumped in a remote section of Ringwood, NJ starting in the 60s and its effects on the local people - the Ramapough Indians. Reporters on the project included Jan Barry and Barbara Williams - both featured in the film MANN V. COMPREHENSIVE ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSE, COMPENSATION, AND LIABILITY ACT  SUPERFUND

Enacted in 1980, this federal law established a fund overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for cleaning up uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. The law also established prohibitions and requirements for closed and abandoned hazardous waste sites' and provided for liability of persons responsible for releases of hazardous waste at these sites.'
