The German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) strengthens transatlantic cooperation on regional, national, and global challenges and opportunities in the spirit of the Marshall Plan. Launched in 2005, the Fund for Belarus Democracy is GMF’s contribution to strengthening civil society in Europe’s “last dictatorship”. The Fund for Belarus Democracy provides direct assistance, offers capacity-building for key agents of change, fosters cross-border cooperation with Belarus, and facilitates expert analyses and policy dialogues.
Freedom House is an independent watchdog organization dedicated to the expansion of freedom around the world. The group has worked with human rights defenders and civic activists in Belarus to strengthen their ability to document and address abuses of fundamental freedoms in domestic and international justice system.
Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s leading independent organizations dedicated to defending and protecting human rights. According to HRW, “the human rights situation in Belarus saw little improvement in 2013. The state suppresses virtually all forms of dissent and uses restrictive legislation and abusive practices to impede freedoms of association and assembly.”
