The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is dedicated to those who died in the bombing in 1945 as well as the testimonies of the survivors. Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) conducts research, for peaceful purposes, on the medical effects of radiation on man, with a view to contributing to the health and welfare of the atomic-bomb survivors and to the enhancement of the health of mankind. RERF was preceded by the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC), which was established in 1947 by the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) with funding from the US Atomic Energy Commission. ABCC initiated extensive health studies on A-bomb survivors in cooperation with the Japanese National Institute of Health of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, which joined the research program in 1948.

Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation aims to convey that experience and to contribute to the dissemination of peace thought and international understanding and cooperation, and thereby to contribute to the creation of world peace and the betterment of human welfare, from a global perspective.

The Hiroshima Peace Institute (HPI) was established in 1998 as a research unit of the Hiroshima City University. The HPI engages in a variety of research activities relating to peace, inspired by the city's historical experience as the first city in the world to experience devastation by a nuclear weapon.

NUCLEAR ENERGY, NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND NON-PROLIFERATION POLICY

Los Alamos National Laboratory, founded in 1943, was the home of the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb.

The IAEA, located in Vienna, Austria, is the world´s center of cooperation in the nuclear field. It was set up as the world´s "Atoms for Peace" organization in 1957 within the United Nations family. The Agency works with its Member States and multiple partners worldwide to promote safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technologies.

UNIDIR — an autonomous institute within the United Nations — conducts research on disarmament and security with the aim of assisting the international community in their disarmament thinking, decisions and efforts.

Founded in 1961, Physicians for Social Responsibility is a non-profit advocacy organization that is the medical and public health voice for policies to stop nuclear war and proliferation and to slow, stop and reverse global warming and toxic degradation of the environment. In 1985, PSR shared the Nobel Peace Price awarded to International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) for building public awareness and pressure to end the nuclear arms race.

The August 6 website serves as an information clearinghouse for groups organizing actions around the anniversaries of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

JAPAN AND JAPANESE CULTURE

Founded in 1907, Japan Society is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that brings the people of Japan and the United States closer together through understanding, appreciation and cooperation. Society programs in the arts, business, education and public policy offer opportunities to experience Japanese culture; to foster sustained and open dialogue on issues important to the U.S., Japan and East Asia; and to improve access to information on Japan.

Asia Society, founded in 1956, is a leading global and pan-Asian organization working to strengthen relationships and promote understanding among the people, leaders, and institutions of the United States and Asia. We seek to increase knowledge and enhance dialogue, encourage creative expression, and generate new ideas across the fields of policy, business, education, arts, and culture.

The Japanese American National Museum, located in Los Angeles, is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to sharing the experience of Americans of Japanese ancestry. The JANM is also home to the Hirasaki National Resource Center, which serves researchers, writers, students, family historians, filmmakers, and other museum visitors.
