About the Filmmaker
Timothy Greenfield-Sanders was born in Miami Beach, Florida. He received a B.A. in Art History from Columbia University and his Master's Degree in film from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Greenfield-Sanders lives in New York City in a converted rectory with his wife Karin, a lawyer specializing in the arts. They have two daughters.
Greenfield-Sanders' portraits are in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum, The Whitney Museum and The National Portrait Gallery among others. In 2004, seven hundred of his art world portraits were accepted into the permanent collection of The
Museum of Modern Art.
Greenfield-Sanders' fashion and celebrity images can be seen in magazines worldwide. He is on the masthead as a contributing photographer at Index and Vanity Fair.
In 1997 Greenfield-Sanders produced and directed "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart", a feature documentary about the legendary rock musician. The film aired in April 1998 on the PBS Series American Masters and premiered in the United States at Sundance Film Festival and in Europe at The Berlin Film Festival. "Lou Reed: Rock and Roll Heart" screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide. In 1999 the film won a Grammy® Award.
Timothy Greenfield-Sanders has two books in print: Art World, published by Fotofolio and TIMOTHY GREENFIELD-SANDERS, his first monograph, published by Alberico Cetti Serbelloni Editori. His latest book, XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits,was published in October 2004 by Bulfinch Press.
His documentary "Thinking XXX" will air on HBO starting on October 28th at 11 PM. In addition, XXX: 30 Porn-Star Portraits will open at Mary Boone Gallery on October 30th.
