The Conscience of Nhem En
Thirty years ago, during the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror over Cambodia, 16-
year-old soldier Nhem En was instructed to photograph thousands of men, women and
children as they passed through a processing center on their way to certain death. The
portraits he took bear witness to the unspeakable suffering and loss endured by the
country. Directed by Steven Okazaki, THE CONSCIENCE OF NHEM EN revisits this
horrific chapter in history. The film was nominated for a Best Documentary Short Oscar®
earlier this year. Read more.
