MEMORIALIZING HISTORY
The Memorial Hall for Compatriots killed in the Nanjing Massacre
This website for the memorial hall created in honor of those who perished in the massacre includes photographs of witnesses and biographical information, recent news about the hall and commemorative events, and descriptions of the Japanese invasion in 1937 and the occupation that followed.

Nanking 1937
Organized by Princeton University in 1997, this conference and series of exhibitions marked the 60th anniversary of the Nanking massacre.

The Nanking Atrocities
Created by Kajimoto Masato while he was a graduate student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, this 'online documentary' features excerpts from the correspondence of journalists, missionaries, and Western diplomats and the diaries of Japanese soldiers; archival footage from the National Archive; and descriptions of the fall of Nanking, the looting, destruction, and massacre that followed, the establishment of The Nanking International Safety Zone, and the War Crimes Tribunal in Tokyo. Masato is currently a lecturer in the Department of Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University.

This archive offers historical images from Protestant and Catholic missionary collections in Britain, Norway, Germany, and the United States which range in time from the middle of the nineteenth to the middle of the twentieth century. Photographer Ernest Forster was an American Episcopal missionary who stayed in Nanking during the period of the Japanese occupation from 1937-1938.

The China Records Project, Yale University Divinity School Library
The China Records project aims to preserve the records of former missionaries to China and provide a repository where these records can be available to historians. The project includes the Christian Colleges and Universities Image Database.

China Missionaries Oral History Project
Funded by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation in 1969, the China Missionaries Project at Claremont Graduate University includes transcripts of interviews with people engaged in missionary work in China during the first half of the 20th century. Included among the interviewees is Nanking Safety Zone Committee member Dr. Lewis S. C. Smythe.
