The Piché/Johnson Family

"I am really looking forward to a nice, boring life with my sweet wife... I swear I will make it home to you. I put up all of the "post it" notes so no matter where you look - you will see a piece of me. I love you. I will see you later."
-Pierre Piché, taken from LIFE's book Last Letters Home
Pierre Piché was an Army Captain assigned to the 626th Forward Support Battalion, 101st Airborne Division of Fort Campbell, Ky. He had just been assigned a desk job for the special forces and was on his way to Baghdad when his Black Hawk helicopter collided with another in Mosul, killing him. Pierre's mother Lisa, who wears his ashes in a locket, and his stepfather, Hugh Johnson, share Pierre's letters, along with their memories of him.
