Diary Entry: President of What?
Aug. 16, 2003
Davenport, Iowa
"Have you seen the size of that bus?" That was the question of the day here in
eastern Iowa. Today was Day One of the John Edwards "Real People, Real Solutions"
bus tour. Iowans came out to meet the junior Senator from North Carolina, but all they
could talk about was his monster-sized bus. "That thing is bigger than our house," the old
man in overalls said to his wife. "How on earth is he going to park it?"
Being near the bus was the only way I got cell service all week, so as I stood there
making phone calls, people kept asking me questions like "Can he really communicate
with the dead?" or "Do you think you could get John to talk to my father? He died of
colon cancer last year." They obviously thought John Edward, the television psychic from the show "Crossing Over," was on board. On the side of the luxury vehicle it reads "John Edwards -- President" which led many of the locals to ask aloud, "President of what?"
