Diary Entry: Meeting Doctor Dean
March 10, 2003
New York City
When I watched the DNC's round of standing ovations for Dean it reminded me of
something I learned as a teenager at the Democratic convention in San Francisco. Mario
Cuomo said in his "Tale of Two Cities" speech, "We must get the American public to look past the glitter, beyond the showmanship to reality, to the hard substance of things. And we will do that not so much with speeches that sound good as with speeches that are
good and sound. Not so much with speeches that will bring people to their feet as with
speeches that bring people to their senses." Howard Dean is bringing people to their
feet. With this crowd, that is an easy feat, but they will get knocked to their senses when
they will realize that this guy could get squashed like a little bug by the George Bush machine.
