Diary Entry: Back at George's House
June 7, 2003
Washington, D.C.
As I look around, I realize that living here, on the reservation with all the Secret
Service and the trappings of power, George has such a tremendous advantage over all
the men who want his job. In the next year, while W. sleeps safely in this house where
FDR, JFK and LBJ slept, the ten little dwarves will have lots of sleepless nights in their
quest to kick him out of here.
Being here today reminds me that swinging around in the jungle of the Democratic
primary is so much more fun than anything that is going on here. When you are covering
a president, every moment of the day is scripted. At least when you are chasing the
presidential wannabes, you get to be a part of the flying circus. It is time to go home and
pack my bags. In the morning I am getting back on the bus.
