Schomberg Center for Research in Black
Culture
One of the Research Libraries of The New York Public
Library, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black
Culture is devoted to the preservation of materials
on the global African and African Diaspora
experiences. The center provides free access to its
wide-ranging research collections of more than 10
million items and sponsors programs and events that
illuminate and illustrate the richness of black history
and culture.
National Museum of African American History
and Culture
Expected to be completed in 2015, the National
Museum of African American History and Culture was
established in 2003 by an Act of Congress, making it
the 19th Smithsonian Institution museum. It is the
only national museum devoted exclusively to the
documentation of African American life, art, history
and culture.
The National Visionary Leadership Project (National Registry of African American Oral Histories)
This organization seeks to record, preserve, and pass
on the wisdom of extraordinary African American
elders who have shaped American history through
oral history interviews and educational and
community outreach.
National Urban League
Devoted to empowering African Americans to enter
the economic and social mainstream, the National
Urban League spearheads the efforts of over 100
local affiliates across the country providing direct
services like job training, home ownership and
educational assistance.
NAACP
Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest
and largest civil rights organization. Its members
throughout the United States and the world are the
premier advocates for civil rights in their
communities, conducting voter mobilization and
monitoring equal opportunity in the public and
private sectors.
100 Black Men of America
This mentoring group works with youth who are
considered to be at-risk, providing positive role
models worthy of emulation and positive
environments in which children can grow and thrive.
