Poem: "Same Cell, A Love Poem For Women In Prison"
Poet: Aulelei Love
time don't move like tina's hand can
as her whisper takes up my half of the bed
"b**ch, I said don't move"
while her fingers try to find space in a prison hole
not big enough for two
not big enough for three
yet she fits her penis envy in
and she's got rhythm like a man
cept she's not trying to come
she's trying to run
looking for power in p**sy that doesn't belong to us any more
but she searches for days
trying to reach my womb by her hands
so she can touch her children without glass in between
she's trying to touch her children in me
but i left my womanhood at home too
but, see, eventually she'll stumble across my clit
and if i squint right
she starts to look like them fine yella boys
with cheap liquer lips that i would to the head
with silence
cause tina still ain't d**k
regardless of how much i imagine
i am not gay
i just need someone to remind me what the world feels like
and when tina was free, she probably didn't like the smell that fell past her knees
when she was bent over for a love she'd end up shooting
now she's looking in p**sy for a past time cause love's f**ked up her memory
so much
she calculates her children's ages by the number of times she seen they faces
and one of them has been two for too long
but tina still holds on
to pictures with push pin marks at the top to remind her
how many times she's been expecting to leave
and how many times she ends up pushing pins back into these walls again
that's why i let tina search in me
we're in the same cell
made of the same plea bargins
that got denied before we tried
to explain to justice that we too were blinded
we too are binded
trying not to be bound to a past tense
so yes
i let her leave salt on my nipples when she wants to taste life again
and i'll let her stash her prayers all up in between my knees
and we won't care if gods or guards are watching
we'll be too busy
grinding our p**sies to the tune of time
hoping if we rub them right
we'll get our wishes
or at least cum
closer to turning moments into days.
