Sharing AW Merrick's newspaper office, is the telegraph office, run by Blazanov. The two men share more than an office, confiding to one another during their frequent "perambulations" around the camp. Blazanov returns from a trip to Chicago in season three, having acquired a new apparatus that allows him to practice "duplex telegraphy." He also reveals news of a lady friend he met in Chicago.
