Gerald McRaney starred in a three CBS network television series for 18 consecutive years: eight years as private investigator Rick Simon on "Simon and Simon," the nation's favorite U.S. Marine in "Major Dad," and Russell Green on "The Promised Land." In season two, he joined HBO's "Deadwood" as George Hearst, father of newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst.
McRaney has appeared in a long list of highly rated series and movies on all broadcast and cable networks, including include CBS-TV's "JAG," the CBS-TV movie "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story," in which he plays Denver's father; "Shake, Rattle and Roll," a four-hour mini-series that chronicles America's love for its music; the CBS miniseries "Nothing Lasts Forever" with Brooke Shields, Gail O'Grady and Vanessa Williams; "A Stranger Beside Me," an ABC movie, which co-stars Tiffani-Amber Thiessen; "Not My Son," a CBS movie, with Neil Jason Patrick; CBS' "Deadly Vows"; NBC's "Someone She Knows"; "Dream of Murder," a CBS-TV suspense drama in which he stars with Shelley Fabares; "Fast Forward," an ABC After School Special; NBC's "Lassiter"; and a new film version of "Simon & Simon" for CBS. He also starred with Jill Clayburgh in the 2003 critically acclaimed off-Broadway play, "The Exonerated."
His acting coach, actor-director Jeff Corey, gave him his first TV role in an episode of "Night Gallery." Four appearances on "Gunsmoke" were followed by steady work as a character actor in television movies such as "Where the Ladies Go," "Women in White," "The Law," "Roots II," and in many series, including "The Incredible Hulk," "The Rockford Files," "Police Woman," and "How the West Was Won." He was also featured in Wolfgang Petersen's film, "The Never Ending Story."
In addition to his appearances in TV movies and series, McRaney currently hosts "The World of Beretta," a compelling outdoor reality series that airs on the OLN network. He travels throughout the U.S. and elsewhere covering exceptional outdoor sporting activities.
He and his wife, actress Delta Burke, live in Los Angeles. McRaney has three children, Jessica, Angus and Katy. He enjoys the outdoors and is an expert camper, hunter and fisherman
