03.07.2007 COSTAS NOW TO RETURNS MARCH 13 ON THE EVE OF "MARCH MADNESS"
One of the most accomplished broadcasters of his generation, Bob Costas
returns with the season premiere of his one-hour HBO sports program COSTAS
NOW, debuting TUESDAY, MARCH 13 (10:00 p.m. ET/PT & 9:00 p.m. CT),
exclusively on HBO.
HBO ON DEMAND availability: March 19 through April 8.
COSTAS NOW focuses on the topical news stories that continually
emerge in today's sports arena.
March's program is timed to coincide with the tip-off of one of most of the
highly anticipated three weeks of sports activity in the nation: The NCAA
basketball tournament, or as it is more commonly known, "March Madness."
Topics on the March 13 show include: an examination of the state of
today's student-athlete playing in the nation's top colleges in revenue producing
programs and asking if the emphasis really is on "the student;" a panel
discussion hosted by Costas that includes Myles Brand, president of the NCAA,
former UCLA and NBA star Reggie Miller(now with Turner Sports) and
Washington Post writer Sally Jenkins; plus a feature looking back at the 1957
national championship run by the University of North Carolina, which needed
consecutive triple overtime games to take the title and deny the Wilt
Chamberlain-led Kansas team. Added to the March 13 show an exclusive one-
on-one with Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski. It's been a turbulent
year at the school and its most visible representative sits down with Costas.
Since joining HBO Sports in 2001, Costas, who also works for NBC Sports, has
won the Sports Emmy(r) for Outstanding Studio Host five consecutive years. He has
received 19 Emmys® in his broadcasting career.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer called COSTAS NOW "intelligent, thought-provoking
sports conversation - and a long way from what is typically available on your radio or
television."
