What is FATE: The Carnivàle Game?
FATE is a card game you play with a deck of Tarot cards. You begin with 20 cards, and as you win games you will get new and more powerful cards to add to your deck.

FATE is played in rounds. Each round, you are dealt four cards. You play these cards to the four Courts. Every time you play a card, you get one point at that Court. At the end of a round, when you have played all four cards, the total points at each Court are compared. For each Court where you have more points, your Fate Stone advances one space.

The object of the game is to advance your Fate Stone 10 spaces on the board. As you win more games, you will be rewarded with more Tarot cards for your deck.
How do I play?
Cards: Every card has a number and a suit. There are four suits: Cups, Pentacles, Swords, and Wands. When you begin FATE, you have 20 cards, Ace through 5 in each suit.

Playing A Card On Your Court: To play a card, you must match the suit or number of the card already on the Court. For example, if you have a 3 of Cups on a Court, you could play any 3 or any Cups card there.

Playing A Card To Steal A Court: On a Court where your opponent has played a card, you must play a card that is the same or higher number. So you can steal a Court from a 3 of Cups by playing a 4 or 5 of Cups or by playing any 3 card of a different suit.

Aces: Aces are the lowest number. However, they have a special ability: they can steal Courts from higher-numbered cards of the same suit.
How is the game scored?
Earning Points: Every time you play a card on a Court, you receive 1 point at that Court.

Bonus Points: At the end of a round, the Courts are scored one by one. If you have a face-up card on the Court at that time, you receive 1 bonus point at that Court.

Scoring Points: After the bonus point is given, the player with more total points at the Court has his or her Fate Stone moved one space. Then four new cards are dealt to both players and a new round begins.

Winning: The game ends when one player's Fate Stone reaches the 10th or higher space. At that point, the player whose Stone has advanced farther wins.

Collecting New Cards: After winning several games, the Fortune Teller will instruct you to pick up a new card. A member of the carnival will then present you with a choice, which will result in one of two cards being added to your deck and to your Tarot reading.
Are there any special cards?
Court Cards: There are 4 kinds of Court Cards you can collect in the game. Court Cards all have a title and a special power related to the suit.

Knight: Removes 1 point from your opponent at any court. If the face-up card at the Court matches the Knight's suit, 3 points are removed.

Queen: Gives you 1 point at any Court. If the face-up card at the Court matches the Queen's suit, you gain 3 points.

Page: Transports 1 point from a Court to another Court. You can only transport points between your Courts or between your opponent's Courts. If the face up card at the first Court matches the Page's suit, 3 points are transported.

King: Exchanges point totals between two courts. You can exchange two of your point totals or two of your opponent's point totals. One of the two Courts must have a face-up card that matches the suit of the King.

Major Arcana: Only the truly masterful player gains access to these mysterious and powerful cards. Each Major Arcana has its own unique ability. Unlike other cards, Major Arcana have a point cost to activate. To use a Major Arcana, you must first choose a Payment Court. The Payment Court loses a number of points equal to the card's cost. After paying the cost, you then select where you would like the card to take effect. If you do not have a Court with enough points to cover the cost of the Major Arcana, then you cannot play it.
Are there any game tips?
Try To Steal Courts: You get a bonus point at the end of the round on Courts where you have a face-up card.

Watch Your Points: Your Fate Stone advances only when you have more points than your opponent in a Court at the end of a round. Pay attention to Courts where you can tip the balance and gain a majority.

Use Court Card Suits: The special powers of Knights, Queens, and Pages are increased if they match the suit of the face-up card. Remember: As you win games, you will be given new and more powerful cards and learn more about your fate.
