"Valerie Triumphs at the Upfronts" |
|
 |
Directed by: Michael Patrick King
Written by: Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow
Summary
Now that the pilot has been picked up, Valerie and her Room and Bored co-stars must prepare for the show's launch, beginning with their first photo shoot - which involves "the kids" climbing around each other in bikinis as Valerie stands in the background in her pastel jumpsuit. Even her attempts at sexy "model mouth" are shot down by the photographer.
Valerie turns her enthusiasm towards the "up fronts" in New York, where the network plans to unveil the new show. The network neglects to book Mickey a flight, forcing Valerie to pay for Mickey's first-class ticket herself. Performing for the cameras aboard the flight, she ends up crawling on her hands and knees during a bout of turbulence. And the show writers keep dismissing her requests to prepare her a skit for the show's unveiling ("I'm the only face they'll recognize"). At least her giddy co-stars are kind enough to invite her out to dinner in New York... that is before slipping out without her, leaving Valerie in a panic as the reality cameras continue to roll.
She is finally pushed to her breaking point at the up fronts, when the network president fails to bring her on stage with her young co-stars. Just as the tears start to come, Valerie hears her name called, and takes to the stage as her reality show is introduced. Now she's ready for her "comeback."
