Patricia Field
Costume Designer

A native New Yorker, Patricia Field began her career when she opened her eponymous Greenwich Village boutique in 1966. For over 30 years, this downtown institution has been a internationally-known favorite of the fashion-forward and has been a defining factor in the urbane style of New York's glittery nightlife. In 1996, she opened a second boutique in Soho called Hotel Venus.

Field also spearheads a line of clothing, designed by long-time associate David Dalrymple, which is available in retail establishments around the world. Sold under the label House of Field, Dalrymple is responsible for such fashion coups as Britney Spears' unforgettable "breakaway" costume at the 2000 MTV Music Awards.

Field's foray into the entertainment industry began in the 1980s when she designed costumes for the television series "Crime Story," a Michael Mann drama about the Mafia set in 1960s Las Vegas. She has since racked up an impressive list of projects, both in television and film. One of these films was Miami Rhapsody, her first collaboration with Sarah Jessica Parker. Among her many other credits are: the feature film The Substitute, Dear Diary (a work which received the 1996 Academy Award® for Best Short Film) and the television series "Wiseguy" and "Spin City." In 1989, she received an Emmy® for Outstanding Costumes for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special for Disney's television feature "Mother Goose Rock and Rhyme." She just received a second Emmy® nomination for Outstanding Costumes for a Series for her trend-setting fashions on HBO's "Sex and the City."

Field is a visionary, a trend forecaster and as the downtown pop priestess sums it up, "Life is a party. Enjoy it - because it ends."
