What is the best part of your job?
At the risk of sounding like a suck-up, the best part of this job is being around the funniest, smartest, nicest group of people I have ever met. And getting invited to fancy parties.
What is your process when writing an episode?
I've only written one, and the process included a lot of rewriting and worrying.
Do you write from your personal experiences?
I write from my own experiences and from the experiences of the people I steal from.
What do you do to get inspired?
For this show, I listen to what's currently buzzing in the air about dating, love and relationships. It's still the thing everyone wants to talk and hear about, it's still the thing no one has a clue about.
How does being a New Yorker shape your writing?
For the show, it obviously shapes my writing in all the observations and anecdotes that I come across from my daily life. Just walking down the street you see and hear so many things that can be transferred to the show. In general, I feel that the city is so pulsing with life and drama and creativity and excitement that it seems like it's only natural to want to sit down and funnel that all into some creative act.
Do you spend time at locations featured in the show before writing them into a scene?
I've just discovered that I don't know a lot of the new hot places that have recently opened in New York, so I'm trying to quickly make up for lost time. It's rough, but I do feel it's my job to go out in New York City and have as much fun as possible.
Which SATC character do you identify with most?
I identify with Carrie and her need to keep asking the big life questions - a sign that she's still curious - and still completely confused.
Do you have a weakness for shopping, dating or any other SATC behavior?
I have a weakness for charming men with witty banter.
