At the age of 25, Brandon is a seven-year pro. A former WBA lightweight world champion, he won the title in February, 2011, and made one successful title defense.
He has an aggressive "throwback" style and a warrior's mentality, and always makes exciting fights. He has won 11 fights in a row, 10 by knockout, since having a 10-round draw in October, 2008.
Brandon lost the WBA title when he did not make weight for his scheduled title defense on December 3 against John Murray, but still gave a very impressive performance and won the fight by 11th-round TKO.
Brandon made his first defense of the WBA title on July 9, and scored a third-round TKO against Urbano Antillon.
Brandon won the WBA lightweight world title with a 10th-round TKO in a thriller against defending champion Miguel Acosta on February 26.
Regarding his nickname, Brandon said, "My coach, Robert Garcia, and Dr. Anderson, they're the ones that gave it to me. After I had a couple of pro fights, they told me, ‘You need a name,' and I was like, ‘I don't know one.' So they were watching me fight, and that's all it took - two punches and I dropped the guy. And they were like, ‘Look - bam, bam. Let's call him Bam Bam.' "
