EDDIE CHAMBERS

Fighter Bio  |  Discuss

updated January 23, 2008

Though born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Eddie H. Chambers has been adopted by the city of Philadelphia and is following in the great tradition of Philly fighters.

Known as "Fast Eddie" for his lightning fast prowess in the ring - especially for a heavyweight -- Chambers (30-0, 16 KOs) has become a regular fan favorite at the legendary Blue Horizon in the "City of Brotherly Love".

In fact, after winning his first nine bouts in Pittsburgh and vicinity, Chambers fought 17 straight times at the Blue Horizon before appearing on a Goossen Tutor-promoted show in Reno, Nevada back in August, where he stopped highly-regarded Domonic Jenkins in five rounds.

Chambers made his pro debut in December, 2000 with a second-round TKO of Tyrone Austin in Chester, West Virginia. He fought and won seven times in 2001, twice decisioning Joe Lenhart in six rounds.

He began 2002 with a pair of decision wins over David Chappell, the second of which was in his Blue Horizon debut. He continued on his winning ways and posted perhaps his biggest win against a name opponent to date when he won a 10-round, unanimous decision over veteran Ross Purrity in May, 2005.

Four months later, Chambers won the vacant Pennsylvania State and IBU Heavyweight titles in his only 12-round contest to date - a unanimous decision victory over Robert Hawkins.

Prior to knocking out Jenkins, his other wins in 2006 came against Andrew Greeley and Ed Mahone - by unanimous decision and fourth-round TKO respectively.

FAMILY:

Eddie H. Chambers is one of seven siblings. He currently lives in Pennsylvania with father and trainer Eddie W. Chambers, stepmother Lynn, brother Christopher (age 14) and best friend and junior welterweight professional boxer Steve Upsher.

Other siblings include sisters Alexis (40), Jessica (30) and Shalouna (21), and brothers Joseph (17) and Isaac (4). Another brother, Blake, tragically passed away at age 8.

The elder Chambers, who has a degree in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh, serves as Fast Eddie's trainer, working his corner at all his fights.

EDUCATION:

Eddie successfully progressed through the Pittsburgh Public School System. He attended the Lemington Elementary School before moving on to the Reizenstein Middle School.

Completing his public education, Eddie was a 2000 Graduate of Westinghouse High School.

WHY BOXING:

Eddie would constantly get teased by youth in the neighborhood because he did not have all the latest clothes. So his father decided to take him to the gym as a way to be able to gain confidence and learn how to defend himself.
