QUICK VICTORY FOR THE MEXICAN COWBOY
It takes a cowboy to predict what round you'll knock a fighter out. Ali was a cowboy, albeit a much bigger one. Jorge Acre may be a cowboy of a different breed -- he entered the ring on a motorcycle and with a prediction of a fourth round knockout. And in his own words, "...whatever I promise, I deliver." And he did indeed deliver during this action-packed, fast paced fight.
It started out favorably for Makepula, who scored well on the cards and won the first two rounds according to HBO's Harold Lederman. Makepula was able to bring Arce in and counter many of the younger fighter's attempts. But that lead only lasted until the third round when Arce began to let his fists go, landing body shots and out punching Makepula with quicker shots. Arce landed a solid, damaging hook that began the inevitable decline for Makepula, leaving him visibly shaken walking back to his corner. And true to his word, Arce positioned himself in the fourth round to knock out the older fighter taking clear advantage of the third round showing with a quick left hook to the head, again shaking Makepula.
And as it happens when you have a quick powerful fighter dominating the ring against a hurt opponent, it was over as quick as it began. 1:00 into the fourth round, Acre maintained his winning streak with his 25th fight, his record now 45-3-1, by unleashing a barrage of punches and flooring Hawk, who was able to get up only to find that the referee was unconvinced of his ability to continue.
