LARRY MERCHANT POST FIGHT INTERVIEW: WINKY WRIGHT
After leaving the ring directly after the draw announcement, Winky Wright expresses his feelings about the decision and the possibility of a rematch with HBO's Larry Merchant.

MERCHANT:
Winky, why did you flee the ring right after the result was announced?
WINKY:
I never argued. I came through to hometown and I showed everybody that I'm the champ. I won that fight. Jermain threw some big rights but I'm catching him with the clear shots and his head goes back, it was crazy.
MERCHANT:
At the end of the fight you stood up like they announced it for you. Did you just mishear that?
WINKY:
We knew that it was 115 for him and 13 for me, I knew it was a draw, but that's the game.
MERCHANT:
One of the mistakes a fighter can make is judging the fight himself.
You were told by your corner to go out and fight in the last 12th round and you decided to stay away and box. Did you throw away the championship?
WINKY:
12 rounds, he didn't do nothing. If I didn't do nothing, he didn't do nothing, so how did he win?
MERCHANT:
Why did you revert to your old style in the 12th round?
WINKY:
I knew I was winning. Like I say, I'm in his hometown and they gave him what he wanted, but I proved that I would go anywhere to fight anybody. And the fans called that fight.
MERCHANT:
And there was a rematch clause, but it depended on you winning the fight. Do you think you'll get a rematch now?
WINKY:
I don't want a rematch. If I have to come here and get this decision, so be it. So the fans who won that fight, and the judges, they do what they do.
MERCHANT:
So if you don't want a rematch, you say you don't want to fight anymore?
WINKY:
I definitely want to fight. And I'm going to go get him. So whoever won the fight, step up to the plate. Anybody.
MERCHANT:
