I heard all the news anchors this week talk about how much better the news coverage was back in Cronkite's day. And I thought, gee, if only you were in a position to do something about it. If you're an adult seeing the new 'Harry Potter' movie, you don't have to be ashamed about being attracted Emma Watson. What you've got to be ashamed about is that you're an adult seeing the new 'Harry Potter' movie. Stop saying Michael Jackson had an irrational fear of his father, Joe Jackson. There is no level of fear that would be inappropriate for Joe Jackson. Perhaps the most prominent African American scholar in America today, Henry Louis Gates, was arrested for being black while home. – Bill Maher The police in Cambridge say it had nothing to do with Gates being black. They said they would have given the same treatment to any minority. – Bill Maher I'm always concerned about the very real possibility of, you know, someone thinks I'm in the wrong place at the wrong time, it doesn't matter my accomplishments. That's something that African Americans still face in this country. – Anthony Woods When Professor Gates was confronted, he acted like any other rich, white guy. You know, 'Who are you? Don't you know who I am?! I want to see your badge number.' – Bill Maher The truth is that there are plenty of Republicans who aren't racist, but there are some very noisy ones who get away with saying things that are completely inappropriate. – Susan Eisenhower On the Political Divide Somebody needs to get up and start talking about unifying this country again. – Susan Eisenhower The only freedom [Barack Obama] is taking away is the freedom to not have a black president. – Bill Maher On Health Care [The Republicans] want to score a political win...But, they have no problem letting 50 million Americans suffer without health insurance. – Anthony Woods We're going to have to find a solution to healthcare because the boomers are going to be retire soon and are going to create enormous distortions in an already distorted system. – Susan Eisenhower I would love to have some journalist ask a Republican who talks about socialized medicine: If it's so awful, how come it's what we have for our veterans? – Bill Maher The Republicans are a sideshow here, compared to the failure of the Democratic Party to get its shit together. – John Heilemann The Democrats, whenever they're given a chance, controlling all three branches of the government, are tied in knots and can't get anywhere. – John Heilemann They're not hospitals anymore. They're Jiffy Lube's with bedpans. – Bill Maher On the Military-Industrial Complex When the military says, 'We don't want this,' and Congress is trying to shove this down their throats, that's a sad statement of the political system that we have right now. – Anthony Woods When the government is keeping programs alive just for make-work, for jobs, isn't that more socialism than what healthcare would ever be? – Bill Maher In the original draft of [President Eisenhower's] speech, it was "military-industrial-congressional complex." And the "congressional" part was taken out because the president felt that he'd had excellent relations with a Democratic Congress and didn't want to get into name-calling on his way out. – Susan Eisenhower Until we start to see some of that corruption actually prosecuted and some of those people start going to jail…the military-industrial complex is going to keep jamming weapon systems at the Pentagon, force-feeding them, that the country doesn't need and that the country doesn't want. – John Heilemann On Afghanistan We clearly haven't learned the lessons that we're learning right now in Iraq; that we need a clear goal, clear missions, we need a timetable. – Anthony Woods It's almost like 1984, where it's just sort of a country that's perpetually at war with somebody over there, and nobody really knows why, but we've all accepted it. – Matt Taibbi If we're going to be serious about this, I think we're going to have to start thinking about some kind of modified draft. – Susan Eisenhower [Multiple deployments are] extremely challenging for these soldiers, especially when they come home. It's destroying families and it's destroying lives, and we need to recognize that. – Anthony Woods As a country, we have a lot more resources that we could bring to bear that aren't just about, you know, firepower and kicking in doors. – Anthony Woods On Homeland Security Every traveler, everybody in an airport, has a role to play at security.
