From her historic match with Bobby Riggs, to her role as one of the original nine women who established women's professional tennis as we know it, to her founding of the Women's Tennis Association and the establishment of the Women's Sports Foundation and World Team Tennis…Billie Jean King has been at the forefront of women's tennis, women's sports and social change.

The BNP Paribas Showdown for the Billie Jean King Cup will honor the 39-time Grand Slam Champion with a tennis competition in her name to be held at the Madison Square Garden. The highly anticipated event has garnered support from key organizations throughout the sport including the United States Tennis Association and the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

In collaboration with the Women's Sports Foundation, the BNP Paribas Showdown will create a special evening honoring women's sports and pay tribute to select female sports icons, as well recognizing Billie Jean for her tireless efforts and dedication. A 30-minute ceremony between the semifinal and final matches will bring together some of the top female athletes of the past 30 years.
