If you've been watching mainstream television at all in the last few years, it would be pretty hard to have missed seeing Brian Kerwin. He has been featured in recurring and guest starring roles on the best shows TV has to offer. From Grey's Anatomy to West Wing, from Desperate Housewives to Monk, he's played everything from a salt-of-the-earth husband and father to a crazed homophobic white supremacist on Nip/Tuck. He's a lovable polygamist on HBO’s Big Love, and an ambitious politician on Boston Legal.
He's also played multiple characters on all three versions of Law & Order -not to mention his recurring comic turns on Frasier and Roseanne. Kerwin also starred in Showtime's critically acclaimed show-biz satire series, Beggars & Choosers. Other recent credits include Medium and Without A Trace. Kerwins television career spans more than three decades.
The highlights of his film career remain Murphy's Romance, opposite Sally Field, and Harvey Fierstein's precedent setting Torch Song Trilogy. He's also remembered for playing Robin Williams father in Francis Ford Coppola's film Jack. Other films include Love Field with Michelle Pfeiffer, Hard Promises with Sissy Spacek, and The Myth of Fingerprints with Julianne Moore.
All of these impressive roles have been woven in and around Brian's true passion, theatre. He performed on Broadway last season in Elaine May's latest comedy After the Night and the Music. He was nominated for and/or won almost every award available for his performance in Edward Albee's most recent play The Goat, or, Who is Sylvia? at Los Angeles Music Center's Taper Theatre. At the Taper he also played to great acclaim in, Paula Vogel's How I Learned to Drive, and Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe? with Glenda Jackson, John Lithgow, and Cynthia Nixon - with Mr. Albee directing. Throughout the years he has worked on and off Broadway, at the Old Globe in San Diego, at the Seattle Rep, and in San Francisco garnering numerous awards along the way. His most recent performance was at the South Coast Repertory Theatre where he played the title character in Tracy Lett's (Bug) newest play Man From Nebraska, directed by William Friedkin.
Brian was born and raised in the Midwest, went to college (USC School of Film), lived, and worked in Los Angeles, and, in the early nineties, after getting married moved to New York to put more energy into theatre. He has remained there ever since, now living with his wife, Jeanne and their three children, Finn (16), Matilda (14), and Brennan (12).
