| My father served during the 2nd World War and when he went on leave with a buddy, he met that buddy's sister Bettie and they fell in love and married (see picture)and stayed together until his death on July 4, 2000. They had four children. I loved my father very much and am proud of his part in history.
One document has the name "Blue Ridgers", but I do not know about them. He served in the Battle of the Bulge, and I am assuming the bronze star was earned during this time. The following are words in a WW2 document he received when he was awarded the Bronze Star (he also had a purple heart): "For heroic service in France, Luxembourg, Germany and Austria from 7 August 1944, to 8 May 1945, in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. Pfc Brown's bravery in carrying important messages under enemy fire, through dangerour areas, and under adverse weather conditions has been a source of inspiration to his comrades. Never hesitant to undertake the most hazardous assignments, he has courageously contributed to the many victorious operations of his company. His aggressiveness and devotion to duty are commensurate with the highest traditions of the armed forces of the United States. Entered military service from Indiana." Thank you to all veterans and God Bless America! |
